Visitor Sign in – Working With Children Check
You will notice the sign at the front gate which advises all visitors to our grounds to report to the General Office. We need to ensure that all volunteers and visitors are signed in, and wearing lanyards, to identify them as “approved” visitors. All volunteers need to have a 'Working With Children Check' and we need to have this registered at the office. Whilst we are a friendly and welcoming school this is done to ensure the safety of children. Sometimes different family members or friends may be delegated to collect or deliver your children. Please let us know in advance. This helps to prepare children and teachers and builds our knowledge of our wonderful community.
School Grounds Safety and Duty of Care
Please note that Montmorency Primary School and its staff are responsible for your children's health and safety during school hours only. The exception to this is during the Out of School Hours Care program hours when the Coordinator, Donna Barclay, and her assistant are responsible for your children.
During school hours MPS staff follow Department guidelines in Occupational Health and Safety and make every effort to care for your children and keep them safe. In conjunction with this, MPS students are required to follow the Student Code of Conduct to take responsibility for their own health and safety with the support and guidance of their parents and carers.
Start Up Program
At the start of every year the whole school participates in our Start Up Program which focuses on our core school values of Respect, Safety, Friendship and Learning.

Student Attendance
We all want our students to get a great education, and the building blocks for a great education begin with students coming to school each and every day. Missing school can have a major impact on a child’s future – a student missing one day a fortnight will miss four full weeks by the end of the year. Some children miss three weeks a year due to family holidays and other factors. If repeated annually that’s half a year of school by the end of Year 6. There is no safe number of days for missing school – each day a student misses puts them behind, and can affect their educational outcomes. Coming to school every day is vital, but if for any reason your child must miss school, there are things we can do together to ensure they don’t fall behind:
· Speak with your classroom teacher to find out what work your child needs to keep up.
· Develop an “absence learning plan” with your teacher and ensure your child completes the plan.
Remember, every day counts. If your child must miss school, speak with your classroom teacher early as early as possible and always send an explanation. If you’re having attendance issues with your child, please let your classroom teacher know so we can work together to get your child to school every day.

Healthy Eating and Exercise
At Montmorency Primary School the safety and well-being of all our students are paramount. This includes keeping children with allergies safe. To do this, we have a school rule of not sharing food. We also place signs outside each classroom where there are children with allergies. Please check with the classroom teacher before bringing food for special occasions to school. Also, because there are several children with nut allergies in the school, MPS has a nut free policy. We appreciate your cooperation in not sending your children to school with nuts or nut products.
Montmorency Primary School is dedicated to the promotion of healthy lifestyles and food choices. All students participate in “Healthy Snack” where fresh or dried fruit or vegetables are eaten as part of classroom time. All students are encouraged to participate in the Morning Fun Run each day around the school at 9 am.
Bully-free Zone
Montmorency Primary School is a “Bully Free Zone”. For more information please see our Code of Conduct Policy, which complies with state-wide policies and practices, and also our Cyber Safety page HERE.
We support the National Day of Action Against Bullying & Violence and each classroom completes activities on this day in March.

Whole Body Listening Program
The whole school uses Whole Body Listening by the Social Studio as a way of teaching effective listening. It is taught in all classrooms at the start of the year and is part of each classroom's rules.
Purpose:
- To establish a simple behaviour management technique that can be initiated with the key words ‘Whole Body Listening’.
- To teach students how to listen to maximise learning.
- To establish foundation skills required to identify and encode facial expressions and body language.
- To teach students how to listen so that others can ‘see’ that they are listening. This is a fundamental social skill that improves relationships.

Student Code of Conduct
At Montmorency Primary School we pride ourselves on creating, enhancing and being part of an environment where all individuals have the right to be safe from physical, verbal, emotional and cyber harm. All individuals need to commit to sharing the responsibility for creating and maintaining the positive, caring and safe environment that we currently have for all who enter our school.
To ensure that these high standards are continually being met now and into the future, we introduced a whole school ‘ Student Code of Conduct’. This Code is the first document produced in our review of the Student Welfare Policy. This policy encompasses all facets of personal safety in clear and easy to understand language.
This will enable students who enter our school community to precisely know what is expected of them and what is acceptable or unacceptable behaviour. Consequences for individuals who choose not to abide by our ‘ Student Code of Conduct’ will be set out in our Student Welfare Policy. The Code of Conduct can be found in the Policy zip file above.
