Our School Grounds & Facilities
Montmorency Primary School’s grounds and facilities are extensive. They include a large sports oval with football posts and cricket pitch, a fully fenced tennis court, a basketball court and three separate sets of playground equipment to cater for the needs of developing children.
We have regular Working Bees where parents and children all come together to assist with various jobs around the school, and also share a barbecue lunch of gourmet sausages and/or vegie burgers.
Along with the outdoor facilities, MPS has well-equipped Performing Arts and Visual Art Rooms, and a large, multi-purpose Assembly Hall, affectionately known as The Castle. It is used for Physical Education, Perceptual Motor Program for Preps (PMP), whole school assemblies, meetings and many other school and community activities, such as the Montmorency Community Food Swap, and weekly yoga and Tai Chi classes. We also have a large Out of School Hours Care Room, and a Library (see below). Please note that during our school rebuild some of the above rooms have been temporarily relocated so that classes may continue.

MPS will be rebuilt beginning in September 2013 with a staged construction and minimal disruption with classes running as normal. Building completion is set for January 2015. See Our New School Plans page for details about its construction.

The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen and Garden Program is well established within our school. This garden is a place where children enjoy planting and caring for their produce. Montmorency Primary School has a modern 4 point kitchen and meals area where children prepare and cook meals using the food produced from the garden.

MPS Pizza OvenOur pizza oven was purchased for MPS in 2010 by one of our teachers, Keryn Johnson. It came at a bargain price from a Melbourne-based company that supports the SAKG Program. Our School Council President, Felicity Gordon, and a group of parents put the oven together. We have used it for ‘pizza night fundraisers’, after-school pizza treats, at our Christmas concert and at SAKG Mini-Markets. It is also used by several community groups, including the Montmorency Community Group Food Swap.
