MPS History and Background
A few milestones in Montmorency's history:
Montmorency is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 18 km north-east from Melbourne's Central Business District. Its local government area is the City of Banyule. Montmorency has hilly parklands adjoining the Plenty River on its western side and several neighbourhood parks, particularly in its south-east sector.
Our school was established in 1922, one year before the Hurstbridge train line established a station there, and four years before electricity was connected in the area. MPS is located at the end of the popular shopping area at Were St. in Montmorency, a block away from the Montmorency Train Station. MPS student enrolments have been steadily increasing since 2009. In 2013 we have 165 students attending our school. To maintain the ‘small-school’ feel and caring environment of MPS, our long-term plan is for a total school population of no more than 250 students. The size of our school fosters a community spirit where all students are known, and there is flexibility in the best way to meet academic goals as well as in developing social skills, along with a wide range of learning programs and extra curricular activities. See our New School Plans page HERE for details of the 2013-2015 building developments as we enter a new era. Google Earth Photos of MPS ~ 2009I was a student at Monty from 1953 and Mr. Mannes was Principal (we called him headmaster then). I loved the school and was proud to be in the marching and basketball teams...Our school did very well. Mr. Ayres liked the rose garden at the front of the school; he taught year 5 or 6. Miss McNally was my teacher in Grade 3 and I liked her a lot. I still remember the other students' names who were in my class. After I finished Grade 6 I went to Eltham High School. Hope you all enjoy your school as much as I did! |
